Frequently asked questions

What are your hours?

I’m available to schedule sessions, Monday through Friday - And from 10:00am to 7:00pm on Saturdays. Please contact me to find an available time slot that works for your family.

What are your rates? What forms of payment do you accept?

My rate is $125 per 50-minute session and $150 for extended travel. I accept check and credit card. You can make payment online using my secure site.

What areas do you service?

I serve families located in Durham, Raleigh, Cary, and Chapel Hill. If your home address is outside of these cities please feel free to contact me to confirm whether you’re in my service area. I want to make my services available for as many families as possible, so it’s necessary for me to limit my travel time between appointments so I can spend more time with clients.

Do you accept health insurance?

I do not accept health insurance. For most health insurance plans, couples therapy is not covered unless I officially diagnose you with a mental health disorder. This diagnosis would then be permanently on your record. Some therapists choose to play into the system and give out diagnoses, but I do not feel this is the best choice for clients or therapists. In this regard the health care system is in desperate need of reform.

How frequent should our sessions be?

As therapy starts out it’s typically best if we meet every week. As we progress we’ll make your sessions more infrequent, and eventually give more and more time in between sessions as we lead up to ending therapy. This approach allows us to really dive in at the beginning and then encourage independence as you become less reliant on therapy.

Do you provide therapy for same-sex couples?

Absolutely. Whether you and your partner have the same or different genders, I will provide the same care and support for your relationship as I do with all my clients.

Do you provide therapy for couples who are not married?

Absolutely. Whether you and your partner are married, cohabiting, or in a committed relationship, I will provide the same care and support for your relationship as I do with all my clients.

Do you have an office location?

I do not have an office. My services are completely mobile. We’ll be meeting together in the setting where you’ll use your new skills the most—your home.

Do you provide therapy for children?

Absolutely! In addition to Couples Therapy I also provide therapy specifically for Children and Families. Children are deeply embedded in the context of their family and their issues are typically tied to family dynamics. During our sessions we’ll work together to uncover and address the root issues that are contributing to your child’s behavior. Please contact me for more information and to schedule a session.

Do you provide therapy for singles?

My primary focus and specialty is with couples and families, but my services are also available for singles. Please contact me for more information and to schedule a session.

From where did you receive your training and degree?

I received my MA in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pfeiffer University in Raleigh, North Carolina and BA in Psychology from Chapman University in San Diego, California.

What are the added benefits of doing in-home therapy?

Clients are typically more relaxed in their home than in an unfamiliar office setting. This allows the relationship between therapist and client to develop at a more rapid pace and for progress and healing to happen more rapidly as well.

Research has also shown that we are better able to recall knowledge when we are in the same environment that we originally learned it. So in-home therapy is beneficial in that it enables you to practice new skills in the environment where you’ll use them the most.
